In these manga, a mysterious merchant appears with wares or services that are rare, difficult to acquire, or fantastical. These characters can sometimes appear out of thin air as a lone traveller, or can sometimes be found in a mysterious shop that displays the items for sale. Their services usually come at a high cost and can backfire in unexpected ways.
